Project Faust #93

If any of you don't know what the point of Project Faust is it was just a name to bind random art videos I would make together, sometimes they are planned out, other times they are happy mistakes or effects testing. At the moment I have been looking into shapes and low-fi images but there is a lot more in the back catalogue.

Henry Scott Tuke

Cd design I did using Tuke's pictures like 'Nude on the rocks'. Dispite the 'controversial' images of teenage boys painted in 1917. The series of paintings make an interesting and unusual set of images for a cd.

BHF

I had an idea for an advert for the BHF.

Thoughts on Janet Jackson.

In the shadow of her brothers death Janet Jackson and the family look like they all might try to make a revamp. Following the boob incident at the Hollywood bowl Janet hasn't been doing too baldly for herself. She has been in a film and had a number one album 'Discipline' ; an odd bit of trivia but Janet had more #1 albums in the USA Billboard charts than Michael and is now on the same level as Madonna, both of them are beaten by Barbara Streisand. [1] But not that we would know it, here in the UK the album sank hitting #63 it was much the same story around the world with Discipline only making the top ten in Canada, Switzerland and Japan. But the USA is where the money is.

I was thinking if I would save Janet.

Well step one.
Work with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis even for a few tracks, then any record company might see some singles in that, out of your 6 #1 albums they gave you Five of them. Say if you record four tracks that still leaves 10 for other producers. Janet's not been bad at getting producers in and making good stuff, one of the most interesting tracks from Discipline is where the track samples Daft Punk all the way so its not like she's doing anything with the recordings wrong but as Ragan Fox once said “Janet, leave the pussy alone” basicly, stop going on about sex, being sexy isn't the same thing as talking about sex.

Also make sure your the cute sexy pin up, the strict sex dominatrix look doesn't work for you and it puts more people off, this might have been so with disciplines front cover. It's okay for Madonna to do it, after the Sex book the public are just happy to see her with any clothing on, but Janet's pop has always been more innocent and to appeal the mass audience back it must come, save the sexy looks for W magazine or Vogue.

So with the writing and the look out of the way I would suggest three things.

1:A greatest hits album. Design of a decade +. Just call it Janet Jackson Greatest Hits. A Name like design of a decade puts off the message Janet's the star. Now how all the singles from control to Discipline, record two extra tracks to feature on each cd, 'cuse this will be a 2cd set job.

Dont order the tracks in time line, arrange them in order of feeling. With the post love for Michael make sure Scream gets on the play list. There is room to re-order and take out some of the tracks. The two new tracks are so fans still buy it for the new things (Something Madonna didn't do with GHV2 - Maybe why it sank).
